Rooted in an unusual place
We developed this training based on our individual expertise gained from more than five decades of professional experience and our shared knowledge of applied behavioral science. Greenzone Feedback is the result of blending concepts and best practices from corporate talent management, crisis communication, and hostage negotiation. An unusual place to start? Well, maybe. But, let's face it. Who doesn't feel like a hostage in a traditional feedback conversation?
We all know traditional feedback conversations can induce anxiety because we've experienced it! Much has been written about traditional feedback and the brain's stress response, confirming we're not alone in experiencing anxiety. While it's comforting to know our stress response to feedback is natural, we need tools and a conversational map to help navigate difficult feedback.
Building upon our robust experience, we reviewed the neuroscience literature and we studied how to mitigate the brain's stress response. We examined the principles of psychological safety, growth mindset and emotional intelligence, and wove them into our process and model. We then identified the concrete skills needed to successfully navigate difficult feedback conversations.
The result is Greenzone Feedback; a practical process and conversational model for difficult feedback in a complex world.
